About the job

You must have strong interpersonal skills and be motivated to build a great development team. You’ll participate in international projects in the design, implementation and deployment of new software functions as well as improvements to current air traffic control systems. You will be working closely with our teams in Iceland and regular travel to Iceland will be required.

Our story

  • 1976Þorgeir Pálsson began working for the ICAA on an automated aeronautical message handing system.
  • 1990A holistic radar situation display and processing system specialized for oceanic ATC is developed.
  • 1997Tern Systems is founded with Brynjar Örn Arnarson as CEO. The company is owned by the ICAA.
  • 2005Tern Systems won its first big tender to deliver and install an ATM system in Jeju (South-Korea).
  • 2009Magnús Már Þórðarson took over as CEO. Tern Systems continues to keep strong ties with universities.
  • 2022Organizational change: Tern Systems shifts the emphasis from product development to customer focus.

Our product

Air Traffic Management Solutions


We develop Air Traffic Management solutions for Air Navigation Service Providers in Iceland as well as abroad. Our solutions cover all main elements of ATC services.

Currently we have installed our systems in over 14 airports which include Iceland, Ireland, Spain, South Korea and Indonesia.

Our systems help guide over 100 million passengers safely to their destinations every year.

Trainings and workshops

We are an established and trusted provider of Air Traffic Control solutions, with over 70 employees from 16 nationalities, and over 25 years of successful deliveries to customers in Europe, Asia and Africa. We are a wholly-owned subsidiary of Isavia ANS, the Icelandic Air Navigation Service Provider, that manages air traffic in the Icelandic air traffic control area.
